California-based artist Jenn Shifflet holds an MFA in Art and Consciousness Studies from John F. Kennedy University in Berkeley, California. Shifflet has been creating light-centered work exploring the intersection of art, nature, and the spiritual for over 35 years. Major personal influences include a fascination with light as metaphor that began after a near-death experience, thirty years of Buddhist practice and a family lineage of artists. The art historical influences of Shifflet's work include color field painting, Northern Romanticism, Japanese and Chinese traditional landscape painting, desert transcendental painting, the studio glass movement, and Light and Space.


Shifflet has received numerous grants and residencies, including an affiliate residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts (2004-2007), Bullseye Artist in Residence (2015), a Pollock-Krasner Grant (2013), and Haven Foundation Grants (2020, 2021). 


Shifflet has exhibited nationally since 1988 in solo exhibitions at venues including the Hall of Science, Queens, NY; The Museum of Arts and Sciences, Macon, GA; The Discovery Museum, Bridgeport, CT; Bullseye Projects Gallery, Emeryville, CA; The Hardin Center for Cultural Arts, Gadsden, AL; and SFMOMA Artist Gallery, San Francisco, CA. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions at venues including the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History Rotunda Gallery, Corcoran Gallery, and National Cathedral, Washington, D.C.; Yuba Art Center, AZ; Morris Graves Museum, Eureka; and Walters Art Museum, Baltimore


Shifflet’s work has been reproduced and discussed in Artweek Magazine, SF/Arts guide in NY Times, Art Practical, Art Ltd Magazine, Canvas Rebel, Square Cylinder, as well as featured in books and catalogues published by the Berkeley Art Center, Root Division, Chandra Cerrito Contemporary, Di Rosa Preserve, ProArts, and Walters Art Museum, among others. Shifflet’s work is represented in numerous public art projects and is featured in several art collections throughout the United States, Asia and the Middle East.  Shifflet lives and works in the Bay Area of California.
